Things To Wear With Men’s Black Blazer & Black Pants

Do you have a men’s black blazer and black pants? Do you only wear it for semi-formal or formal occasions? I know many men who would answer “yes” to both those question. In, fact, I used to do the same thing. I would keep my black blazer tucked away in the back of the closet and wear it only for special events. After living in New York and having a condensed closet, I realized I had to use all my clothes. The outfit combination deserved to be worn more than a few times a year for the amount of space it was taking. However, I didn’t really know of any other way to wear it other than with a white button up underneath.

It took awhile, but I developed some outfits I liked. I found that one of the hardest things to do with a men’s black blazer is to make it look casual. When you wear it, it often looks like you’re going to a wedding. Below you’ll see my thought progression from semi-formal/business casual to a casual, everyday outfit.

Argyle Sweater

I know I said we’d try to move away from the white button-up, but I needed something to start off with. I layered an argyle sweater on top of the button-up. It still looks like I’m going to a wedding or lecture at a university class. However, it adds another layer of depth to the outfit.

Blazer: Paul Jones ($46.99)
Slacks: Plaid & Plain ($24.99)
Pink Button-up

I thought I’d try a different color to move away from the white button-up. The outfit is familiar because we’re used to wearing a button-up under a black blazer. However, it’s a little different because of the color. I like this color because it’s different the usual drab colors of those business casual outfits. Additionally, the pink tone isn’t not too loud and can pass off as everyday casual or business casual outfit.

White Turtle Neck

I know white is going to work underneath the men’s black blazer and black pants combo. That’s how I came to wear the turtleneck underneath. I wear this as an every day outfit and occasionally to the office. It has a wide range of possibilities. I think this is one of the most versatile outfits for all kinds of occasions on this list.

White Shirt

Now that we understand that white goes well underneath the men’s black blazer, I went with the basic white shirt. It’s great for just casual everyday wear. Additionally, it’s the white shirt is just a really accessible piece of clothing. I’m sure you have one in your closet right now. I added the gold chain to give the outfit more depth.

Gold Chain: Miabella ($36.90)
Blazer: Paul Jones ($46.99)
Slacks: Plaid & Plain ($24.99)
T-shirt: USPA
White Jersey

I wore this basketball jersey underneath the black blazer to keep working with white underneath the blazer. It looks good, and I get to represent my team. I like this outfit because it’s very different than the other ones. It’s definitely has more of a “street wear” vibe to it.

Rainbow Shirt

I wanted to add a little more color on top of the white to the outfit. Suffice to say, I did exactly that with this rainbow shirt.

Black Sweater

To completely contrast all the white underneath the blazer in my previous outfits, I wore a black sweater. I had worn a lot of light colors underneath in previous outfits and wanted show that what you wear underneath can create an entirely different look.
