Even before the pandemic, I was growing tired of wearing button-up/dress shirts. I found them uncomfortable and boring. When the pandemic started, many of us started work from home. We wore the same thing everyday and never had to put on anything more than what we woke up. The exception was when there was a zoom meeting and we had to turn our camera on. Even when running errands I did not change out of my hoodie and only put on jeans because my sweatpants didn’t have pockets. Now, I’m even more tired of wearing button-up shirts. As we’re slowly returning to the office, unfortunately the same thing that we wore when we worked from home isn’t acceptable as office attire. I don’t have any ideas to help you if you want to keep wearing sweatpants, but if you never want to wear a button-up shirt again, I’ll walk you through some men’s business casual and office wear outfits that don’t include button-up shirts.
Not Layering
Not layering doesn’t give you the same depth of look as if you did layer. There’s only one outfit I’ll wear to work that I don’t consider as a “layered” outfit. That outfit is the one below which is a quarter zip sweater, t-shirt and nice pants. But I would love to hear more ideas for men’s business casual outfits that don’t require too much layering. So if you have any please share them in the comments below
Quarter Zip, T-Shirt, Khakis
The rest of these outfits are layered outfits. Layering is your best friend. I find that you usually need to layer to give you that corporate casual look. But also layer with something that is comfortable.
Overcoats
Tan Overcoat, Black Turtleneck, Black Slacks, White Shoes
I love the white sneakers that a part of this outfit. It adds another layer of comfort on top of not having to wear a button-up shirt. Additionally, I love how the dark color of the shirt and pants contrast with the light color of the jacket and pants
Camel Overcoat, White Turtleneck, Dark Jeans, Oxford Shoes
Building off the tan overcoat from above. Add jeans and a white turtleneck and you’ve got your next outfit. White turtlenecks are cheap and I hope you already have a dark jeans. If not, check out the links below. I added oxfords to make it better but you don’t have to.
Grey Overcoat, Grey Sweater, Plaid Pants, White sneakers
If a camel/ tan overcoat isn’t your color, get a grey overcoat. I love the outfit below because it incorporates plaid pants, which makes the outfit more interesting than any other solid color pants.
Blazers and T-shirts
You can’t just throw on any t-shirt and blazer and expect to have a good office wear, business casual outfit. Try matching the colors of the T-shirt and pants together with a nice blazer on top. The fit is also key. Make sure it fits well.
Grey Blazer, Black Shirt, Black Pants, White Shoes
I find matching the shirt underneath and the pants make fore a good outfit.
Grey Blazer, Grey Pants, White Shirt, Black Shoes
If you don’t want to match the color of the shirt and pants, Match the blazer and pants together. Usually I find a black or white shirt will do the job well. No need to overthink it
Maroon Blazer, White Shirt, Dark Pants
Another example of wearing a white shirt under a blazer but with a more fun color.
Navy blazer, Striped Shirt, Khakis
If you want to really stand out (not having two pieces of the outfit match color, or wear a white/black shirt) this is one my favorite outfits. I love a navy blazer and khakis combo. And then the striped shirt gives it the unique touch that I like.
Blazers and Turtlenecks
Feel like you need a little more sophistication than just a t-shirt? The other outfit I like to wear to give that office wear, corporate casual look without wearing a button up is a turtle neck and blazer combo. Here I just paired a white turtleneck with a navy blazer and just some dark blue jeans.
Navy Blazer, White Turtle Neck, Dark Jeans
Black Blazer, White Turtleneck, Black Pants
If a blue pants and blazer isn’t your color then try the the black blazer and black pants combo.
Black Blazer, Black Pants, Grey Turtleneck, Black Shoes
If you aren’t feeling the white turtle neck, then maybe try a grey one. I find that neutral colors work best (white, black or grey) but if you know of any other good color combinations, please let me know comment below.
Blazers and Sweaters
Maybe you find turtlenecks too itchy or just not your thing, Try wearing casual sweaters underneath the blazer, I’m not sure the exact name of these sweaters. They’re not quite as baggy as other crewnecks. And always depending on the weather, you can changeout the sweater that you’re wearing underneath. I like to wear a black sweater and black blazer with different pants. Here’s a really simple one with a black sweater, black blazer and dark jeans.
Black Blazer, Black Sweater, Dark Blue Jeans
Same outfit. Just another photo because I liked it
Black Blazer, Black Sweater, Black Pants
I find switching out the blue jeans for some nice slacks make it look a little less casual. I’ll also wear a gold necklace to a little color to the outfit.
Black Blazer, Black Sweater, Olive Pants
Sometimes I like a little more color than just neutral tones, so I’ll wear these olive color pants with the same black sweater and black blazer that I wear above. Some people may say it’s a little too casual, but I don’t think so.
Turtleneck and Harrington Jacket
I call this jacket a harrington jacket. Perhaps someone would call it something else but I’ll just call it a harrington jacket for the sake of this article.
White Turtleneck, Black Harrington Jacket, Dark Blue Jeans
This outfit takes inspiration from the Black Blazer, White Turtleneck, Black Pants outfit above.
Tan/mustard Turtleneck, Black Harrington Jacket, Dark Blue Jeans
Just changed out the white turtleneck for a tan/mustard one from the outfit above. It gives the outfit more color which I love and still corporate casual, office wear appropriate.
Once again, same outfit, just liked the picture so I had to post
